Primary Selection #1: Gen 1:26–28 (Hebrew Bible)

Then God said, "Let us make humanity in our image, according to our likeness. Thus, they shall dominate over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the skies, over the animals, over all the land, and over all the movers that move upon the land.

So, God created humanity in his image; in the image of divinity he created it. Male and female, he created them.

Then, God blessed them. God said to them, "Produce offspring and multiply. Fill the land and subjugate her [to you]. Rule over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the heavens, and over everything that lives [and] moves upon the land.

Primary Selection #2: Gen 2:18, 21–24 (Hebrew Bible)

x[השם] God said, "It is not good that the man is alone. I will make for him a helper fit for him."

Then, [השם] God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man. He slept, and [God] took a part out of [the man's] side. Then, he closed the flesh back in its place. So, [השם] God fashioned the side that he took from the man into a woman, and he brought her to the man. The man said, "This finally is bone from my bone, flesh from my flesh. For this one is called "Woman," for this one was taken from man.

Therefore, a man leaves his father and mother, and he is joined with his wife to be one flesh.

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהִ֔ים לֹא־ט֛וֹב הֱי֥וֹת הָֽאָדָ֖ם לְבַדּ֑וֹ אֶֽעֱשֶׂהּ־לּ֥וֹ עֵ֖זֶר כְּנֶגְדּֽוֹ׃

Do you have an arm like God? Do you roar like him with your voice?

Secondary Selection #2: Prov 8:22–23 (Hebrew Bible)

x[השם] God created me as the beginning of his handiwork, the oldest of his ancient works. Out of eternity, I was created, before the first of the land.

יְֽהוָ֗ה קָ֭נָנִי רֵאשִׁ֣ית דַּרְכּ֑וֹ קֶ֖דֶם מִפְעָלָ֣יו מֵאָֽז׃ מֵ֭עוֹלָם נִסַּ֥כְתִּי מֵרֹ֗אשׁ מִקַּדְמֵי־אָֽרֶץ׃

Secondary Selection #3: John 1:1–3a, 10, 14a (Christian Testament)

In [the] beginning, the Word existed. The Word was with God, and God was the Word. He was in [the] beginning with God. Everything was created through him, and nothing was created without him.

He was in the world, and the world was created through him. But the world did not know him.

The Word became body and dwelt among us.

Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ λόγος, καὶ ὁ λόγος ἦν πρὸς τὸν θεόν, καὶ θεὸς ἦν ὁ λόγος. οὗτος ἦν ἐν ἀρχῇ πρὸς τὸν θεόν. πάντα δι’ αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο, καὶ χωρὶς αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο οὐδὲ ἕν.

Primary Selection #3: Rev 22:3–4 (Christian Testament)

Nothing cursed will exist. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in [the city], and his slaves will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.

καὶ πᾶν κατάθεμα οὐκ ἔσται ἔτι. καὶ ὁ θρόνος τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ τοῦ ἀρνίου ἐν αὐτῇ ἔσται, καὶ οἱ δοῦλοι αὐτοῦ λατρεύσουσιν αὐτῷ καὶ ὄψονται τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ, καὶ τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τῶν μετώπων αὐτῶν.
